Lynching Secularism!

I do not swear by the tenets of hard core hindutva ideology that a section of the BJP think tanks preach and want the entire Hindu populace of the country to blindly follow. But off late I have been observing that bashing anything 'hinduissh' is deemed fashionable by the media! My problem is with the media highlighting certain issues and interpreting it in a manner in which the people perceive the great Indian media as super secular! ...
An example of such kind of indulgence by the media is the recent news in which it gives importance to the act of 'Narendra Modi praying guns' . The headline is a fantastic example of sensationalism, at the first place Modi didn't pray guns, he offered pujas to the 'shastras', and guns is one of the modern day Shastas(which I feel everyone must pray and gain mastery over irrespective of the religion one follows...look at the Jammu Girl who killed the millitants using GUNS!!) It is also important to take into consideration that the shatra puja is performed on the day of Vijaya Dashami. Hence it is a common affair in almost all the Gujju homes across the country! it is very obvious that millions of the Hindus must have followed the ritual on that day... As it is a common fact that the media which always runs out of NEWS feeds on trivia. And the worst part is that the media creates it own theories and exports the images to the public sphere.
Modi Praying GUNS is a news because when Modi does so he is made to appear more horrific, deadly, violent and blood sucker !
But spare a thought ,will the media ever dare to show any top Muslim leader lynching a goat on Bakri Eid????
When Muslim do it..its custom, its religious expression, its freedom. When a Hindu does it...its threatening, its orthodoxy, its highly problematic to the SECULAR fabric of the society.

The concept of secularism itself needs restructuring...In Indian context majority bashing is the best form of secularism and media is the ardent follower of this mantra!

  3. ..er...well...Mr.Narendra Modi has (human) blood on his hands. He is guilty of having lynched innocent Muslims in Gujarat through action/inaction and has even admitted to fake encounters.Frankly,I see no problem with the media demonising him, because he is a demon. The very thought that he could be the prime-ministerial candidate for BJP is abhorrent. As for Muslims lynching goats,well...do you eat non-veg? I don't.So as far as I'm concerned lynching goats on Eid is no better and no worse than killing animals for food.I don't see any difference.

And by the way, talking about secularism,I found that when the new laser lab in the School of Physics was opened, they did a devi pooja first and even had pictures of goddess Saraswati.Where is secularism here? Where is scientific temper? If I had my way,I would have thrown out the pictures and pooja materials.

  4. And you say "majority bashing". Do you mean to say there is no "minority bashing"? Not long ago,I received emails from a certain friend(who used to work at Google) saying that Muslims breed like rats and rabbits and this is the root of all of India's problems. And I'm sorry to say that his views found a lot of support, all the while conveniently forgetting that "breeding like rats" is something the grandparents and great-grandparents of Hindus did too.

  5. And what about scientists of ISRO praying to idols of Hindu gods and offering pujas at Tirupati before launches? Where the hell is secularism here? It is no more than an act to demonstrate that in India,Hindus rule and what is much, much,in fact infinitely worse,a sad statement of the total lack of scientific temper in India, even among "scientists". Nehru would have been disappointed.

  6. Hey itz not abt som of ur racial friend abusing a community or scientists doing yagnas and all its about the press . Secularism has seldom been practised here. U can site many examples others can also do the same viz. the subsidy being given for haj pigrimage accounted to 5.95 billion rupees in 2007 and 7 billion rupees(rs 47454 per person)in 2009 but there isnt any such provision for the oder religions , rather the government levies takes for Kumbh mela.
Again their is a furore when som1 proposes reservations for hindus in BHU but everyone readily agrees for 50 % reservation in AMU and Jamia Milia Islamia.
Dhannajay was kept in jail for 14 yrs and then he was hanged but the death sentence for the man Mohaamad afzal, the man who raped the country is being reconcidered for presidential pardon.

So the government fails to practise secularism but at least the press who should be more responsible to the people must refrain from such practises
